I Wake Up Screaming
One exposed roll 220 film, 1440 x 61 mm
The female detective in noir cinema was an archetype with great agency, and one I admired as a child. (I would later work as a private investigator for more than 20 years.) This narrative is based roughly on the 1941 film of the same name. I recreated, in miniature, lighting schemes and mis-en-scenes of noir tropes. These images were shot on a single roll of 220 film, one exposure for each of the 24 miniature stage sets (echoing the number of frames in one second of the 1941 film).
