The Life You Save May Be Your Own
35mm slide projection, 96 slides.
In The Life You Save, I stalk my own animus, Carl Jung’s problematic concept of our contra-sexual identity. In this series, my animus is represented by a railroad porter, under an inch tall. He travels through miniature sets constructed to resemble, in setting and artistic sensibility, particular works made by male image makers who have shaped my gaze. They include Alfred Hitchcock, Robert Adams, Saul Leiter, Walker Evans and Wong Kar Wai. The title comes from the 1955 short story by American writer Flannery O’Connor.
